Five are reportedly planning to increase the prize money on this year’s Big Brother series from £100,000 to £500,000.
The news comes from The Daily Star, who also claimed last week that X Factor judge Cheryl Cole would be fronting the revamped show as part of a revenge bid on Simon Cowell, so take it with a pinch of salt!
A source told the publication that not only will the prize money be brought into line with that of the American series, but also revealed that the 24/7 live feed will be back when the celebrity series returns this August.
The newspaper also claimed that it will be running a daily competition for two weeks before the show launches in August, in which it will offer five golden tickets to lucky readers each day. The Willy Wonka inspired event will then allow the sixty ticket holders to try out for the reality TV show.
The source added: “We reckon the nation will go Big Brother barmy. This has got to be the most astonishing prize ever offered by a newspaper.”
The Guardian earlier reported that Five have signed a five year deal with Endemol for the show and revealed that the same Elstree based Big Brother house will be used.
It is thought that a celebrity version of the show will launch in August, followed by a normal full length series running against The X Factor in the autumn and winter.
Channel 5′s programmes director Jeff Ford is quoted as saying: “We’re hugely excited.”
